Nation's Restaurant News recently named
Ted's Montana Grill one of six emerging restaurant "Hot
Concepts!" honorees. Open in Carmel since November,
Ted's Montana Grill features authentic American favorites
in a Craftsman-style bar and grill setting reminiscent
of turn-of-the-century Montana. The rustic decor features
rich mahogany paneling, pressed tin ceilings and unpolished
brass. As McKerrow likes to call it, this is "comfort
food for the 21st Century."
One-slightly unexpected comfort food on
the Ted's Montana Grill menu is bison. "Ted is
the largest bison rancher in the U.S.," McKerrow
explains. "Bison production is done the old-fashioned
way - it's all-natural, the animals are not force-fed
or injected with any kind of steroids or hormones. Bison
is one of the top five foods women should eat for iron
replacement, it has about half the fat and cholesterol
of beef, it's rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, and it tastes
great." McKerrow says that approximately half of
all Ted's Montana Grill patrons order bison off the
menu, and once they try it, they're hooked.
For diners in the mood for something a
little less exotic, Ted's Montana Grill tenders a blend
of mouthwatering classics and new American standards
such as cedar plank king salmon, pot roast and meatloaf.
Steaks are available in bison or beef selections, and
cuts include a tenderloin filet, Kansas City strip,
Delmonico and prime rib. McKerrow's personal favorite,
the "Beer Can" chicken, is infused with rosemary,
garlic and Anchor Steam beer, roasted to perfection
and served alongside garlic mashed potatoes and fresh
steamed broccoli. Homemade cookies and milkshakes top
it all off in style.
At Ted's Montana Grill, Thanksgiving dinner
happens not just once a year, but every Sunday. "We
roast about 15 turkeys each week in every restaurant,"
McKerrow says. Fresh ingredients are what make the difference
at Montana Grill. "There are no microwaves and
no freezers in any of our restaurants," he says.
Ted's Montana Grill is also proud to be
an eco-friendly dining establishment. Menus are printed
on recycled paper, soft drinks are served in recyclable,
glass bottles and there is no plastic or Styrofoam anywhere
on the premises.
"We really have all the elements
of white-tablecloth fine dining with the highest quality
food and beverages available, but at casual dining prices,"
McKerrow sums up. "We're striving to satisfy the
appetite of the American public."
Ted's Montana Grill is entirely non-smoking
and open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
